Healing and the Kingdom of God: Part 3 Believing

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8

“For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” Romans 6:23

Faith / Believing is based on revelation of authority

How do you get to the place where you can see the miraculous happen in and through you? It starts with the “renewing of your mind”. Faith is based on “revelation” of authority.

Last week we summerised the two steps to approriate healing

First, revelation that provision is made in the redemptive work of the Lord Jesus Christ for the healing of the whole person. Prayer for the sick and anointing with oil are taught in the Scriptures as privileges for the Church in this present age and a primary activity of Christian witness.

Second, revelation that it is God’s will that healing is appropriated through: 1. Seeking God. 2 Repentance from sin. 3. Prayers of deliverance including anointing with oil. 4. Approaching physicians.

These steps require us to act in faith, believing that God has given us not only the authority to approach him for healing, but the authority to heal.

John was writing a letter to believers under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. He revealed that the Lord wants us healthy just as much as He wants us to prosper emotionally and mentally.

Apply God’s work as medicine. Speaking Scripture over our lives and others provides revelation of authority.

But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power…they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired (AMPC).

What does it mean to “wait for the Lord”? It means to actively expect, look for and hope in Him. It includes setting aside time to talk to God, read and meditate on His Word, or simply sit quietly in His presence.

This time with the Lord can do more to restore our body, mind and emotions than anything else we can do. During these times, the Lord empowers us with renewed physical, emotional, mental and spiritual strength. Though such waiting upon the Lord we find faith.

Reading Matthew 8:5-13

How do we apply this to us today?

And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment: For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfortthy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour…. [27] And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us. And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord. Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you. And their eyes were opened” Matthew 9:20-22, 27-30a.

A principle of great importance is seen in these verses — that is, “thy faith hath made thee whole … according to your faith be it unto you.” Hebrews 11:6 tells us that “without faith it is impossible to please God” But conversely, we are told, “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer” (Matthew 21:22) — including prayer for healing! God expects us, in asking for healing as well as in other prayers, to believe Him, to have faith in God” (Mark 11:22). Divine healing is quite appropriately called “faith healing”!

Healing requires us to demonstrate faith in Jesus

Faith in Jesus is His primary pleasure. Divine healing is not always immediate and may involve continued faith.

Luke 17:12
(KJV) And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.

Acts 9:10-11, 17-18
, KJV And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord. And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus…. [17] And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.

Provision is made in the redemptive work of the Lord Jesus Christ for the healing of the whole person. Prayer for the sick and anointing with oil are taught in the Scriptures as privileges for the Church in this present age and a primary activity of Christian witness. This healing is appropriated through: 1. Seeking God. 2 Repentance from sin. 3. Prayers of deliverance including anointing with oil. 4. Approaching physicians. 5.Waiting on the Lord in faith including declaration of scripture and the laying on of hands.
