Disappointing Lips

God made all things Good. If you really looked around you must have seen something wonderful. There are many many wonderful things around us. The blue sky. The stars at night. The beautiful flowers. The pretty butterflies. O the world is a wonderful place. Where did this world and all its wonderful things come from? By chance did it come from nothing? The Bible tells us that “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the Earth” (Gen 1:1). Wonderful things in this world came from a wonderful God! Who wanted to make his wonder known, but making his invisible glory visible!

Before this beginning, there was no world. But God was there. He is the I AM. He has always been, before time itself! One day he set time in motion and made all the wonderful things we see. God said, “Let there be light” (Gen 1:3) and there was light. The Bible teaches us that God is light. (John 1:5) He made light in the world so that we could know Him and see his visible glory. If we stop to look around, we can see all the wonderful things that God made. Everything that God made was “very good” because God wanted to communicate to us that He is very great!

‘Teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.’ 2 Timothy 2:2 NLT

Communication with God is very important. God created to communicate glory. We call this God’s “general revelation” through creation, God communicated to everyone! Can you think of any other ways that God communicates? Well God spoke to men and women, boys and girls long ago. These stories are recorded in the Bible so that through the Bible God can speak to us. In fact, the Bible could be described as a love story! Why would God what to communicate love to us?

God made us Good. God did something supernatural. Something impossible. He made “breathed into” humankind and gave us a soul. A soul that could reproduce and a soul that could live forever. He made us like Himself. Good. But why did God make us? Was God lonely? He made us for His praise and to communicate his goodness. Sadly, now we see many things that are not beautiful and good anymore. We see sickness, we see selfishness. We say things that are not good and we fail to communicate God’s love. Our own lips are disappointing.

Lord, high and holy, meek and lowly,

You have brought me to the valley of vision, where I live in the depths but see you in the heights; Surrounded by sin I behold your glory above. Let me learn by paradox:

that the way down is the way up, that to be low is to be high, that the broken heart is the healed heart, that the contrite spirit is the rejoicing spirit, that the repenting soul is the victorious soul, that to have nothing is to possess all, that to bear the cross is to wear the crown, that to give is to receive, that the valley is the place of vision.

Lord, in the daytime stars can be seen from deepest wells, and the deeper the wells the brighter your stars shine; Let me find your light in my darkness,

your life in my death, your joy in my sorrow, your grace in my sin, your riches in my poverty, your glory in my valley.
